Turkeys and Fixings

Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. (‭Proverbs‬ ‭3‬:‭5-6‬ NLT)

In the past week I have come to realize the amazing work God has done in me. In years past I would fret and worry, trying to control the outcome of things so greatly beyond my control. Don’t we all?

One of our pastors came up to me last Saturday, teasing, asking if I was ok knowing how frantic I was that same day a year ago. Truth is, I was ok. Totally ok.

This week we are preparing for one of our largest community outreach events, when hundreds come to receive a complete ready to cook thanksgiving meal, a turkey and bag of sides. Hundreds of families will be fed. This is an opportunity for us to love them and serve them as Jesus has commanded, for his glory. It’s a mission trip right here in our own hometown.

We will bring our “loaves and fishes”, thank God and bless them, and like the faithful disciples on the mountainside, we will pass them out. God does the multiplying. In the end, everything will be given away. Jesus fed the 5,000 then instructed the disciples to collect what was left over. They picked up 12 baskets, after all had eaten and been satisfied.

How Great is our God, who is faithful in providing abundantly more than we can supply on our own. How great is He who teaches us to trust Him and then shows us just how much He can be trusted.

His mission, His people …. we are His servants. Stand back ya’ll, watch and see what our God does …. and grab your baskets.
