Obedience

Thursday we celebrated my husband’s most recent milestone in his journey with Christ. Mark has often said that God has to use great big flashing neon signs to get his attention, but three years ago He used a simple black and white sign in front of the Fairview campus of North Greenville University.

A PK, Mark was in church whenever Dad’s work required it and any time the church doors were open. But that isn’t my story to tell so I’ll just say that one day about three years ago, as we took the long way home through the countryside of SC, there it was.

He knew it would be hard. It would require late nights after a full day’s work, many weekends and even summer classes. He would dive deep into the study of God’s word. It would take nearly three years of discipline, sacrifice, dedication, perseverance. However, in his heart he knew it was his next step in obedience to a calling he had been denying all these years.

I can do all this through him who gives me strength. (Philippians 4:13 NIV)

God is ever faithful. Throughout this time, His presence has been real and tangible. Recently Mark confessed that he had secretly been afraid that this would challenge his faith …. but God is so good …. it deepened it. Through this journey, God has drawn him even closer and given him greater clarity of his purpose, his passion and his mission.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV)

Awww! This was so sweet, baby! I could have never done this without your understanding, loving and supportive heart. This is as much your degree as it is mine. Thank you for being patient for the past three years.
