Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
1 Peter 5: 8

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Ephesians 6: 12

When I read these scriptures I get a mental picture of an evil menacing beast, crouching low, shrouded in darkness, ready to make a threatening move. Not too far from the truth I think. Over the past few months I have become painfully aware of spiritual attack. As Christ Followers we are living and breathing prey. Satan has got us in his sights and we’re about to get it with both barrels.

Pure evil since before Adam, that devil is a nasty rotten liar. A master of deception. He knows our deepest darkest fears, our hidden weaknesses. He eagerly uses our insecurities against us. He tempts the flesh, he knows our broken pasts. He wants to discourage, to do harm …. to ruin every good and Godly relationship. He seeks to kill and devour, to create division, to destroy.

He plants seeds of doubt in our minds, whispers of gossip in our ears. He tells our hearts we are not good enough, unloveable, unworthy. He has all kinds of tricks designed to confuse and distract. I believe his goal is to make us take our eyes off God. He is relentless in this.
He never sleeps and never tires of tormenting us, of trying to make us fail, slip and stumble.
Oh …. and when we mess up ….. he is truly delighted.

Thankfully God’s word is full of encouragement! His scripture our weapon, our hope and our defense!!

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
John 10:10

Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
1 Peter 5:9

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
James 4: 7

Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.
Ephesians 6: 11

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33
